Originally from South Florida, Dr. Alex Torres completed medical school in West Virginia and subsequently completed residency in emergency medicine in Oklahoma. Dr. Torres joined the MD1 Program as an EMS fellow directly after his emergency medicine residency. As he currently serves as a critical care air transport physician in the United States Air Force Reserve, he was always wanting to spend time on critical care flights in addition to the other prehospital activities. In his 12 months of fellowship, Dr. Torres completed more than 20 fixed-wing critical care flights, with a majority of them being international.
During his time with MD1, he developed a strong interest in disaster response and emergency preparedness, completing more than 15 courses dedicated to this area of EMS.
Dr. Torres is dually Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and EMS. He is lead author of article (www.jems.com/2019/03/06/critical-considerations-for-fixed-wing-air-medical-transports/) published in Journal of EMS that discussed the critical considerations regarding fixed-wing flight medicine. This article is currently being used by the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, Critical Care Air Transport Team Initial Course, as a reading assignment for students throughout the United States Air Force.
Dr. Torres currently works as an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine and also serves as the clerkship director for the EMS rotation for medical students at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
He is also an Associate EMS Medical Director for Baltimore County Fire Department and is involved in quality assurance, provider education, and working to further improve the presence of prehospital physicians. ... See MoreSee Less

MD1 Program and ParaFlight partnered up on an International flight from South Florida to Israel. With only 9 hours on the ground before flying back to NY, a quick and meaningful stop at The Western Wall in Jerusalem completes the trip before heading back to Ben Gurion Airport . One again, El Al proves that not only are they an amazing and safe airline, but their commitment to every passenger, especially to those who are infirmed and vulnerable and need some extra TLC to make their trip a bit easier. Thank you @elalusa and @elalisrael for going above and beyond. We are privileged to be a preferred provider for your passengers. Bon Voyage.
